Thanks for a great auction!

auction-crowdThe 2004 EJF Auction has officially ended, and thanks to all our terrific volunteers and generous and spirited bidders, it was a rousing success! Remember, all this fun and madness is for a purpose: To provide grants to people working in the public interest this summer. If you helped with the auction and have a qualifying job, be sure to get your EJF grant application in the EJF box in the records office today!

Thanks again to everyone who made the auction a success! The particulars are too numerous to list at this time, but in addition to our great volunteers and happy bidders, the EJF owes a tremendous debt to all the donors, without whom we'd have nothing to action, and to our terrific auctioneers, Dean Johnson; Professors Cheh, Maggs, and Sirulnik, and Corrie Westbrook. They all did a wonderful job of keeping things moving, spotting bids, and making sure everything went for a great price. Thank you!

Finally, thanks to everyone in first-year sections who made the Jar Wars Section Smackdown a huge success. The final totals for the record books were:

  • Section 11: $26.84
  • Section 21: $120.22
  • Section 13: $163.65
  • Section 12: $341.39
  • Section 14: $350.23
Thanks everyone, and see you next year!

EJF on eBay!

Do you have family or friends who need a terrific hotel to stay in when they come to D.C.? Do you know any country music fans, REM fans, Washington Caps fans, Baltimore Ravens fans, or Elizabeth Dole fans?

If so, the EJF has just the thing for you: The First Annual EJF eBay Auctions!

As you may know, the spring EJF auction is this Thursday, April 8th, from 4-8 p.m. in LL101. As usual, it will be preceded by an all-day silent auction in the Kelley Lounge. However, since we know not everyone can't make it to the live and silent auction, we've put a few choice items on eBay so *everyone* can help the EJF raise funds to support GW students working in the public interest this summer.

The following items are now available to the highest bidder on eBay:

1. 2 nights at Holiday Inn on the Hill in Washington D.C.!

2. Autographed Alan Jackson Photo! For Charity!

3. Autographed NHL Washington Capitals Hockey Stick & pucks!

4. Hat w/#98 Anthony Weaver Baltimore Ravens Autograph!

5. Autographed Toby Keith Photo! For Charity!

6. Autographed Martina McBride Photo! For Charity!

7. Autographed REM Photo! R.E.M. Autograph for Charity!

8. Senator Elizabeth Dole signed photograph! For charity!

These auctions will close by 5 p.m. April 8th. Tell your family, friends, business associates, random strangers! Bid right now while you're thinking about it! All bids (up to fair market value) are tax deductible. Thank you for your support!!

Welcome to Auction Week

The 2004 EJF Public Interest Auction is now only three days away! If you'd like to volunteer to help (and get some much-needed volunteer hours in order to qualify for an EJF summer grant!), be sure to stop by the EJF table this week to sign up for an auction job. You can also still volunteer to staff that table -- see the remaining open slots here. The table will be "open" in the following times and places:

  • Mon., April 5, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.-- Main Info Desk [Soft Lounge]
  • Tues., April 6, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.-- Main Info Desk [Soft Lounge]
  • Weds., April 7, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.-- Kelly Lounge Info Desk [Hard Lounge]
The tables will be a one-stop shop for everything EJF this week. At the tables anyone can:
  • Buy tickets for our 50/50 Raffle (with the winner taking ~$300 last year!) Buy five tickets and you can take a spin on the EJF See and Say for your chance to win a prize!
  • Buy GW Law keychain bottle-openers -- great gifts and handy utilities!
  • Sign up for the GW 1% Club!
  • Sign up to volunteer for the auction itself.
  • Review lists of auction items so you can start planning your bidding strategies.
  • Become a player in the Jar Wars Section Smackdown!
  • Add silver change to your section's jar (or your former section's jar to increase its total; add pennies to the other sections' jars to decrease their totals! Bring your change to make sure your section doesn't get smacked down!
The EJF Table is where the action is this week. See you there!
