Better Idea Good

What are the advantages and disadvantages of inherited wealth? Check out gtexts for a great discussion of that question. [Link via sua sponte.]

Imagine a world where you don't inherit anything because all property of the dead escheats to the state, but the money is used to radically reduce or eliminate the income tax.

Public policy questions like this are what will make law school fun.

How does this differ from any other distribution of wealth (welfare/socialist) program? My rich father dies and my whole states pays %1 less in income taxes, meanwhile he (postmortem) gets screwed out of his life that he spent building a legacy for his kids, and I get screwed out of what small reward I get for growing up with an analy obsessive workaholic? Who dreams up this stuff? "Hey, I know, let's take a man's ENTIRE LEGACY and give it to everyone else! Wouldn't that be great?"... B.S.
