Remodeling Postponed
I had big plans to do a little housecleaning and remodeling here at ai before I started my summer job, but the time has slipped away and I guess the housekeeping will have to wait. For now, "ai Quick & Dirty" (right column) has become "ambivalent bits," or "ambits" for short. The booklist should be updated a little, and a new countdown is up. Nothing too exciting so far, but I do hope to introduce a fun new feature sometime in the next few weeks, depending on how that tricky balancing act of work and play goes.
Just for the record: According to this tracker, yesterday ended a streak of 25 straight days on which ai received 100 or more page views. That may not sound like much, but it's a record for this humble blog, and its author thanks you for stopping by.

Regarding the book list - did you ever make it through Quicksilver? I've got about 100 pages to go and my father-in-law is almost done with The Confusion. School has really put me behind on reading. Bel Canto is outstanding. It was the Lincoln City Book Club book last fall. My wife was one of the pre-readers for the club to help them decide which book to choose so I read it, too. It's a quick read. Seems almost in that magic realism area but it isn't, although that may just be because anything set in Latin America kind of takes on a Garcia Marquez flavor anymore.

Yeah, school basically brought my liesure reading to a screeching halt, but I hope that's going to change now. I've made it only about 20 pages into Quicksilver, so you're way ahead of me. I meant to comment a while back on your book list -- IJ is near the top of mine, as well. Are you on wallace-l?

wallace-l? Is that a listserv or something?

Right here. It's been a little quiet recently, but generally it's a lively listserve that covers a wide range of pop culture topics but revolves around all contributors' love of/obsession w/ DFW. If you sift through, there's some great stuff on there about IJ. They've attempted at least two full group reads since I've been watching the list; I'm not sure they ever made it through either time, but some of the commentary on the early chapters is pretty interesting.
