Slow Loading

Reader Survey: Have you noticed ai loads very slowly these days? For me, the right sidebar loads immediately, but the main content (the blog posts) take forever to pop up. Is this true for you, as well?

And if so, do any of you webslingers out there have any tips on how to speed things up? At first I thought maybe it was just a slow mySQL database or something, but then I remembered that MT pages are static—they don't rebuild every time your refresh the page—so that can't be it. What could it be?

yeah, that happens to me. maybe it's scripts loading or something?

I've noticed the exact scenario. I run a Mac with Mozilla, and had wondered if it was just me.

I noticed the same thing. Sometimes, the whole left side is still loading when I'm already finished reading the new posts.

It doesn't seem any longer to me...but perhaps my vast technological expertise is just not working at full capacity right now.

do you use div's to split up the sections of your site? the browsers may be rendering them as they're done -- one by one -- and then get caught in a loop or something doing one of them.

Yeah, there are divs all over the place. Right now, the right sidebar is a bunch of divs that come first in the code of the page, while the "entries" are in another div that comes last (and is therefore last to load). I notice that the new templates for MT 3.x reverse this -- the entries div comes first in the code, followed by the sidebar div. Perhaps I'll need to make a similar reversal with this page in order to speed things up.

I've also noticed recently that all of my pages look pretty bad in some older version of IE they have at the office. I hate to think any regular or occasional readers are seeing these pages in some hacked up fashion, but I'm sure it's happening. Maybe I'll just revert to a default MT template. I bet that would clean things up and speed everything up a lot...

no, don't do it! there's no reason to make your page look like everyone else's just for some old browser that no one should be using anymore.

Yep, I've noticed the slow loading - been going on for some time. I also have problems with the text of the posts - sometimes half a line (top or bottom) of text gets cut off and I have to 'jiggle the post' to get the text to appear.
