Network Down Again
Ok. Our wireless network is down again. I think it's time to stop whining and just pony up the monthly fees. Goodbye cell phone, hello land line and DSL!Posted September 29, 2004 08:42 PM | life generally
Yeah, at a certain point, it's worth the money for reliability. :)

Just make sure you secure your network! :-)

About that securing the network thing -- how? What do I need to do? Just set up a WEP password on the router, or....? Any good step-by-step guides for dummies you can point me to?

Hi. I found your site (which I like very much) while looking through the recently updated list on the MovableType page. I'm not a security expert by any means, but I can at least share with you two things that I've done on my wireless network. 1) I'm not sure how your setup is, but if your internet is coming in through a desktop and then being sent to the router then make sure you have a good firewall in place on the desktop computer. 2) Turn WEP on. The consenus seems to be that WEP will prevent people who don't want to make much of an effort from accessing your network. However, it might not stop a really determined intruder.
