Out-of-Placeness

Chief Justice John Roberts at GW law.Chief Justice John Roberts was at GW yesterday to judge a moot court competition. I could have gone to see the event except I only heard about it the day before and by then the tickets were long gone. Law-Rah had a ticket and couldn't go. I could have gone and didn't have a ticket.

But the thing is, I don't really care that I missed it. I have little idea of what is really going on at “my” law school and that doesn't bother me. I feel very little connection to the school, and it's pretty clear that I don't appreciate much of what it has to offer, all of which tells me one thing: I never should have come here for law school. Hindsight and all that.

Maybe this is just general law school burnout.

Oh man, you are singing my song. I feel like Bender in The Breakfast Club...I guess I'm just not a joiner. Maybe if they had a beer drinking club, like apparently Georgetown does.

Non-joiners of the world unite! Oh, wait. I guess that won't work.

Seriously, I'm not in law school, but I felt what you're feeling when an undergrad. And I feel it every time ND hits me up for a donation. I went to the school and gave them lots of money. That should be enough.

I enjoy your blog.

I feel you. In fact I felt you three months into my 1L year. I was so over it--it meaning the Socratic method, the fuss about study groups, and the really silly way that students are pitted against each other for grades. Oh yeah, and the overt and subtle racism.

I'd mark it down to 3L blues. You certainly don't sound disconnected.

I've been reading your blog for quite a while. Although you don't seem to be the typical law student (and this I mean as a compliment), you do usually come off as pretty enthusiastic about the law, at least with regards to its applications in the real world. I'm sure you are just a little over it all right now.
